What it is

The finish, not the absorber.

Acoustic fabric is woven open enough for sound to pass straight through it. On its own it absorbs very little.

Its job is the face. Stretch it over a frame filled with absorbent material, and the room sees fabric while the sound goes into the fill behind.

Buy it by the metre when you build your own panels or stretch walls, or want to recover old ones.

Good to know: the fabric needs an absorbent fill behind it to calm a room. It won't block noise from next door.

Installation

MLV Sound Barrier: Mass Loaded Vinyl barrier. Dense membrane that blocks airborne noise at the wall level. The primary noise-stopper. 2.5mm Sounds up to 90dB 4mm Sounds up to 120dB
